Bio

 Matthew F. Bellas

I have been singing since 7 years old, playing guitar since I was 13. I wrote my first song “Love Can Be Simple” at the age of 16. Over the years I never stopped singing or writing songs. My calling to record came as the music on my first CD was being written. This came about at the age of 47 - thus showing that with perseverance and the embracing of what life throws at you, anything is possible. So my advice … never stop trying.

As a Song Writer:
Growing up I enjoyed listening to songs with harmony such as The Beatles, The Eagles, The Carpenters, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel and the like. I have come to love expressing myself through the creating process of song writing. It is amazing how a song once started writes itself. I never know what journey each song is going to take. There is no rhyme or reason to the writing of each song. Some may start with a 2 chord progression, some with a title and others with a simple phrase.
Although inspired by many music genres when writing I am mostly drawn towards: spiritual, folk, inspirational and life.

As a Performer:
Although I play guitar my voice is my true instrument. I remember having a passion for singing as far back as the first grade. I have come to a point where each time I sing I literally dance with my voice. Singing brings me great joy as does the smiles that it has put on the faces of many. I have always and will always sing.
I have sung in Choirs, Folk Groups, Choruses, Quartets, and many, many duets with my twin brother, Michael. Recently I have gone from performing on stage to studio work and Nursing Homes and Adult Residences. My acoustic set is perfect for small dinner parties or gatherings. My repertoire includes a large variety of music reaching back to the 1920’s through the ‘baby-boomer’ era with artists and music such as: Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, John Denver, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, The Beatles, Neil Diamond, Broadway and Country.

…. I’m an old time crooner at heart…
